“The way to a man’s heart is through his stomach.”
Minko was my most underrated character last summer. To be honest, I dislike her tantrums and grumpiness because these seemed to be so immature and exasperating. However, I’m not going to deny the fact that I really enjoyed her confrontations and arguments with Ohana. Most importantly, I learned from her that when it comes to devotion and impressing the person you like, just prepare the legendary love food omeretsu with heart–and voila! Your feelings will be instantly transmitted to your crush.
But of course, aside from Minko’s omeretsu, I enjoyed how Hanasaku Iroha showed exquisite food presentation. It’s so good in showcasing the Japanese’s way of preparing food and how they delicately arrange different kinds of cuisines in one table. Also, I particularly loved its opening songs because it’s so good in illustrating the art of hospitality and good housekeeping. The animation was superb, right on beat with the music, and very creative in showing a top-notch customer service.

art of hospitality and good housekeeping = Always in a rush. Running. A lot. Haha, that’s my lasting impression of the OPs.
It’s nice to see a series that presents a whole gozen, rather just the usual curry raisu/nikujaga/chahan/ramen we always see.
Yeah, the OPs were so awesome and lingering, it perfectly fits the essence of Kissuisso.
GAH, such a perfect-looking omuraisu. I can never get mine to fold in that flawless football shape. And there’s no way I can get such a seamless, uniform color to it all like that.
Anime food is always so amazing!
DOZ BENTOS.
I know, eh. I was also inspired to cook omuraisu, although when I was about to do it, I realized that it wasn’t that easy as it may seemed,
I suppose a show about innkeeping would be pretty good about how it prepares the food in it. Now I’m hungry.
Since the girls are waitresses, I think the how pretty the food preparation is, reflects on them.
One thing I’ve learned in watching Hanasaku Iroha is that the art of hospitality is such a hectic activity because you’re always on the move.
Indeed, that’s why I also enjoyed the OP because they showed everyday rush as waitresses and innkeepers.
(drool) I’m hungry. Actually, Minko is my favorite character from HanaIro. I just thought her nasty attitude aside, she’s a nice girl.
She’s indeed a nice girl, actually I also enjoyed her character. Because of her yandereness, I loved seeing her suffer or in pain because of jealousy towards Ohana. Most of all, when Minko becomes so mad but then Ohana was so clueless on what’s going on.
So evil, trying to ensnare a guy with good food
Anyway, I did dream of my dream meal. It will be: salmon sashimi + warm green tea + night with bright full moon.
Haha, but that’s what the saying says.
Your dream meal sounds yummy. I always order Chirashi whenever we go to a Japanese restaurant because I love assorted fish. ^^
Watching this show would always, without fail, make me hungry. XD
As for me it inspires me to become an innkeeper, hehe.
I wonder if someone will find out that they were tracing
( People do it a lot lately, it seems). Aside from joking, Iroha was a disappointment for me. I dropped it after episode 18. The uncompromising mixture of fanservice with the intentions of taking seriously the human drama depicted plus the negative representation of modernity and the Americans gave me a really sour taste.
I can’t deny though that their food looked lovely and your first picture was a fav – Ohana gave her mother a lesson!
You dropped it with only six episodes left? I really enjoyed this series. I don’t mind the fanservice because it’s not exploitive. I mean there’s no random panty shots, if the girls were naked that’s because they’re on a bath scene.
As for the drama, I actually enjoyed it especially the mother-daughter / manager-worker relationship. Btw, I wrote an article about how I see tradition and modernity in this show. Please, feel free to check it out. ^^
Haha, I remember what you’re saying. But as far as I can recall, Satsuki actually ate Ohana’s cooking and I really appreciate that from Ohana’s mom, regardless. ^^
I loved the episode when Minko made the omelette rice. The food presentation throughout the series was a lot better than you would expect from anime, especially considering it’s not an anime about food.
Same here, I was really laughing when I saw that huge love. Plus, how she was hiding after she gave that Tohru.
