I have an extreme fascination with time. If I’m asked to choose a sole capability to become a superhero, I’d definitely choose time manipulation. That feeling of assurance that you would be able to correct all of your mistakes and totally be in control of your destiny bestows that godly experience that no other ability can give.

But of course, everything has its own downside. Aside from each of us is always dependent of our own time, the problem with time travel is no matter how we manipulate our destiny, we can never cheat time, because nobody remains forever in present and no one can ever stop the future from coming. And that’s what exactly I enjoyed about The Girl Who Leapt Through Time. As romantic story and sci-fi lover, I find it so poetic how this movie showed that with time leap, the possibilities are endless however the chances are finite. With this ideology, I loved how the heroine of the show, Makoto, realized that every moment should be cherished and embraced especially once you find that one special person—a classic plot but something that all of us can relate timelessly.

Art-wise, I have to admit, I didn’t find it so fantastic nevertheless it’s beautiful. But that being said, the storyline and the easiness on how to understand the concept of love and time travel is what I truly commend on this anime. The narration is superb because regardless of being a sci-fi film, the atmosphere and characterization remained grounded to reality. Most of all, I loved the delivery of the lessons and principles that this show left regarding about time. Personally, this is the only anime that I gave a ten on my MAL account. Hence, it is such a great joy to find a remarkable show. ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ Side Remarks:
- I had a lot of fun writing about the physics whatnot of this anime.
- Before I end this post, I would ilike to wish everyone a Very Merry Christmas. Also, thank you for all the readers and visitors of my site, I almost dropped doing this 12 Days of Post project, but seeing that I’m getting visitors and readers really motivated me to continue and finish what I have started.
Merry Xmas to you and all the readers all!
I must say that making 12 consecutive interesting posts isn’t as easy as it looks but you did it!
The Girl who Leap thru Time was short but really nice
Another time travel series that was pretty intriguing for me was Stein’s Gate.
Funny, I was watching a 1-episode oav (before I saw this post) that had time travel in it: “DBZ: Episode of Bardok”.
Thanks for the greetings, and likewise to you. Good to see more The Girl Who Leapt Through Time fans. ^^
Btw, thanks for the suggestion. Steins;Gate is something that I wished I followed. But, I’m expecting for the movie. That one, I will not surely miss.
Merry Christmas. I have meant to watch GirlLeapThruTime for a while now, but haven’t gotten around to it yet.
Thanks and same to you Merry Christmas.
It’s a movie so it’s really easy to watch. If you have a moment I highly recommend this film. I hope you’ll like it. ^^
I have such great affection for this film
It doesn’t matter how long it’s been since it originally aired; The Girl Who Leapt Through Time will always be one of my favorite sci-fi stories.
Ditto. I don’t know when it was aired, but I’m really glad to find this gem this year.
Yes! DBZ!!
Saw that too.
Merry x-mas~ I’m glad you posted about this. I have this anime on my list. It’s nice to see a good review. I look forward to watching it.
Another DBZ watcher. I guess I should check that episode so that I can relate.
I hope you’ll enjoy this film… but I’m sure you will do. Thanks and Merry Christmas to you as well.
Such a sweet film! I love it, though it isn’t my timeless favourite
I think that this would go to 5 cm per sec, if we talk about movies. I can’t really decide for an anime series.
But now, with this statement, I can imagine you like Homura
5 cm per second is another favourite of mine. Animation and aesthetic-wise, no doubt, it’s way much better than The Girl Who Leapt Through Time. But I guess plotwise, this film is more dynamic and engaging.
Homura, from Madoka? Yes, I loved her. But design-wise I like Mami more. Kind of like in comparison to 5 cm per sec and The Girl Who Leapt through Time. ^^
Good job on your twelve days of anime posts! They were nice reads.
Overall I thought Girl Who Leapt was pretty good, but I wasn’t a fan of the final act. I just wanted something more conclusive and positive from that one, I guess.
Thanks for the compliment and for reading them. ^^
I guess what I liked about the final act is it stayed true with the concept that future is predictable yet will always remain a mystery. But a conclusive ending would be nice as well because it will give more reason for the viewer to smile.
If I were a superhero, I’d also want to have the power to manipulate time and space as well! Toki wo Kakeru Shoujo is a such a nice timeless movie, but for me it would have to be either 5 Centimeters Per Second or My Neighbor Totoro. ^_^
Congrats on completing your 12 Days of Christmas posts, and happy holidays!
I guess more people are in love with 5cm per second. ^^ I loved that film as well, but I prefer the plot device of The Girl Who Leapt Through Time. Nevertheless, both are excellent anime.
Thanks, and same to you congrats on completing your 12 Days of Christmas posts.
“If I’m asked to choose a sole capability to become a superhero, I’d definitely choose time manipulation” <- Hiro from Heroes flashed through my mind when I read this. It is a very cool superpower.
I remember enjoying this movie. It was fun, simple and just plain nice.
Merry Christmas!
Now that you mentioned Heroes, how I loved that show too, especially Sylar.
I loved the ending of The Girl Who Leapt Through Time. While it seems that in almost every time-travelling series, the main character seems to try to return to the original timeline, it’s always interesting to see the journey that they take and the lessons that they learn.
I just realized that the main character always goes back to his or her original time, now that you mentioned. The series as a whole for me is really engaging for the same reason that you mentioned. It’s how they executed what we’re going to take away from the series that I loved the most.
The plot is very simple and kinda teen-ish, but it is very well executed and that is what I liked about The Girl Who Lept Through Time.
Keep it up, man!
Its simplicity made it extraordinary, indeed. I’m glad that you like this movie.
And thanks Kuro for the motivation. Happy New Year!
The Girl Who Leapt Through Time has been one of my favourites since its release and the reason has been simple fascination with time travel and the whatnots. It’s a subject that I always got attracted to and the reason why I sang praises of Steins;Gate while it was airing.
I’ve been hearing a lot of good stuff about Steins;Gate. If I only paid attention earlier that it’s all about time travel, I would’ve picked it. But one of these days, I’ll pick it up. Thanks for the info about the resemblance between Steins;Gate and the Girl Who Leapt Through Time.
