Since I already blogged all the series that I’m watching this winter season, I think it’s not so bad to write a filler post while waiting for the next set of series to come. Although I feel awkward answering some of the personal questions because it defeats the purpose of having a pen name—I wanted to be judged based on my writing and not who I am in real life—I realized that it wouldn’t hurt if I share a bit about the person behind SnippetTee.

Mahou Shoujo Madoka★Magica – 2011 Best of the Best

To be the best means to surpass all and to contain the finest possible attribute. Indeed, it’s a bold statement to articulate that Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica is the best of 2011. But given all the merits that are there to consider, I have no doubt that this show is the most worthy to be placed on this year’s pinnacle of excellence.

As a huge psychological, yuri, and fantasy fan, Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica effortlessly fell under the category of my preference. But on the contrary, that didn’t give this anime an easy-pass to my watch list despite the fact that it clearly satisfied my genre of interest. With all honesty, those wide-faced and neon coloured hairs failed to impress me. Not that I have anything against with cute-moés, but I would prefer to watch characters with pointy faces, slimmer figures, and somewhat mature looking wardrobes—kind of like Ikuhara’s artwork.

2nd Day of Anime: Signing a Contract with Kyubey

Who would have ever forgotten about Kyubey, the infamous character of Mahou Shoujo Madoka and arguably the most debatable character of the year? This cutesy rodent-like creature significantly raised Madoka into the pedestal. What I truly find interesting about Kyubey is how he plotted such villainous acts without actually being wicked. It was long debated whether he’s evil or not. But until now, I still stand by my belief that he’s neither good nor evil. He’s simply amoral.

Psychoanalysis: Death Drive in Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica

Mahou Shoujo Madoka completely caught me off guard; it’s been a while since an anime infused my brain with some massive amount of steroid and made every neuron of my central nervous system working. Now that it finally came into its conclusion, I can’t think of anything else how to decipher this series but to psychoanalyze an exceptionally psycho-show using the theories of the most notable psychoanalyst, Sigmund Freud. Together with Lacan’s concepts, I argue that Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica rightly befalls into the definition of Death Drive.
