If last winter I was enchanted by Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica, this time I’m spellbound by Senki Zesshou Symphogear. Although it seemed comedic and playful for the most part, I like it because from the get-go it already gave us that mysterious vibe and sad event. Aside from that, this series also has very heart-warming yuri moments and engaging visuals and musicals. However, what fully caught my attention is the intricate and mind-boggling magical makeover of these Swansong and Noise-fighting schoolgirls especially Hibiki’s super awesome techno-futuristic transformation on the first episode.

Having only three series on my winter anime cart, I have been re-reading lately some of the mangas that I’m regularly checking for new releases. One of these is the nice but fairly sad story of Kimi Koi Limit, a yuri manga.

While the plot is a somewhat clichéd bizarre love triangle, I’m really enjoying reading Kimi Koi Limit mainly because it’s nicely drawn, well-paced, emotionally engaging, and stimulatingly expressive.  It also doesn’t have that heavy atmosphere because comical fluffs are being thrown in before the drama fully consumed the reader. Also, the conflict is simple but how it’s being delivered is so engaging.

Experts, scholars and my Aunt Esther are united in one belief:
True love has spiritual dimensions, while romantic love is a lie.
A myth. A soulless manipulation. And speaking of manipulation …
lt’s like going to the movies and seeing the lovers kiss …
The music swells, and we buy it, right?
—Rose Morgan, The Mirror Has Two Faces

I don’t know if it’s just me, but have you ever wondered why we say aww’s and kyaa’s whenever we see a dokidoki moment? Usually these moments are wherein the characters stare at each other’s eyes, hold hands, cling arms, and kiss each others’ lips. In most cases, these acts are meant to stimulate heart-pounding, temperature arising, and exciting sensational effects. Because of this, I find it so interesting how we fall in love just by watching and reading. As a matter of fact, some viewers become so compelled by the scenes, making them imagine that the characters that they’re watching are their husbandos or waifus.

Have you ever remembered those days when witches were “so not”, but then now they’re “so hot”? Pretty much this is the same trend that I’m noticing on Mawaru Penguindrum. Who would’ve thought that Ringo and Masako would redefine the art of stalking? Indeed, stalkers used to be “pervy-ugly-dirty-guys” but now they evolved into “sexy-hot-kicking-gals.” Because of them, instead of being excited for the next “romantic” love scene, viewers now craved for the subsequent “delusional” love vista.
